About NewsLeecher:
NewsLeecher is a tool made for fetching and managing articles from the Usenet. It downloads Usenet articles in a snap, and uses it's inline engine to assemble and decode all the downloads. The powerful featureset and state-of-the-art user interface makes it an application "you simply can't live without" if you are a serious Usenet user. The current releases of NewsLeecher are mainly made binary files downloading, but we're working hard on extending NewsLeecher with full-blown text reader capabilities at the moment.

Completely Free of Spyware & Adware
NewsLeecher does *not* contain any spyware or adware that might send personal details over the Internet. In fact, it has been certified as spyware-, adware- and virus-free by one of the largest software sites on the Internet.

 Based on Successful Experience
It is no secret that the development of NewsLeecher was initially inspired by some of the existing newsreaders on the market. We have tried to take the best features of those readers and mixed them together to make the ultimate newsreader available for our users!

Including the Popular SuperSearch Usenet Search Feature
With the built-in SuperSearch feature, you can search *all* the binary usenet groups at once, for a specific keyword or keystring, in less than a second! The SuperSearch engine is state-of-the-art in it's speed and it's ability to perform true wildcard searches!

 Full Support for NZB Files
NewsLeecher has full support for the NZB file format. It can create and export NZB files directly from articles in the group view or from SuperSearch results. And it can import NZB files manually and automatically in many different ways, for easy downloading.

 Top Tuned yEnc Support
Besides supporting the "old" encoding formats, such as uuEncode, NewsLeecher also supports the brand new encoding format called yEnc. Actually NewsLeecher has a top tuned yEnc decoding engine that makes sure your downloads are decoded smoothly in the background without consuming too much CPU time.

Automatic PAR2 & RAR File Handling
No more fumbling around with PAR and RAR set files! Using the integrated "Repair'n'Extract" feature, NewsLeecher can automatically verify and repair broken file sets, and automatically unpack RAR archive sets to a location you choose. "Repair'n'Extract" contains many custom settings for fitting the feature exactly for your liking.

 Advanced Multiserver Support
NewsLeecher has advanced support for leeching from multiple servers at the same time! An unlimited number of usenet servers can be used to download files at the same time!

 Multithreaded Server Downloading
Besides being able to download from several servers at the same time, NewsLeecher can also use up to 99(!!) simultaneous download threads per server. This could, for example, be used to download 99 pictures from a server at the same time!

 Filter System
The filtering feature enables one to find certain posts without going through all received headers. Filter by subject, size, age and more!

 Automatic Downloading
The built-in automatic multipart posts processing removes the hassle from combining binary post parts one by one. NewsLeecher detects and combine parts by itself!

Fastest Group Caching in the World
Fast group caching enables much faster group viewing by only receiving the latest available post headers and caching the old ones! The caching routines in NewsLeecher has been tweaked and optimized to be the fastest in the world!

 Top Modern User Interface
State of the art user interface with support for XP themes and many options for tweaking the usability and the interface!

 Advanced Feature Support
Besides all the usual download features, NewsLeecher also supports tons of advanced features that makes it easy to use your usenet membership to the fullest. Such features include smart article highlighting, a built in group noteblock and much much more!

 Compatible Technology

As some of you are probably speculating about what the NewsLeecher team is currently up to, here's a quick overview of the projects we're playing around with at the moment:

NewsLeecher V4
The next major release of NewsLeecher, NewsLeecher Version 4, will implement full support for threaded / combined view for binary usenet articles. With the threaded view enabled, NewsLeecher will able to keep up with the ever increasing article count in various usenet groups, and where earlier releases of NewsLeecher (and most other news readers) will struggle when browsing usenet groups containing 50 million + articles, NewsLeecher Version 4 will be able to browse such groups without much effort.

The first internal alpha test of NewsLeecher v4, will be released to our test team soon, and if everything works out with the internal tests, an official test version will be releases within too long.

SuperSearch Retention
Lots of you have asked us to increase the retention of SuperSearch, as many usenet providers have announced upcoming usenet retention increases, reaching as far as 250 days and more.
Up till now we've said that we could not increase the retention of SuperSearch until, probably, late 2009, due to some technical limitations.

Good news! We're found a work-around way, that will enable us to increase the SuperSearch retention to keep up with the usenet providers offering the longest retention.
We'll look into the SuperSearch retention upgrade as soon as the initial NewsLeecher Version 4 beta is official.

Happy New Year to all NewsLeechers!

Due to a network problem, the SuperSearch service hasn't been indexing new articles for some time. The problem has been fixed now, and the SuperSearch article index should be completely up-to-date within the next 30 minutes time. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update: Unfortunately we still have network problems, so the SuperSearch indexer still isn't up-to-date. We're working on getting the issue fixed asap. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Note that this beta fixes a rather serious performance degrading bug which was introduced in the previous beta release.

NewsLeecher v3.95 beta 1 is now available for download. For both trial users and NewsLeecher customers. Due to the larger changes in this beta release, it's recommended that you make a backup of your current NewsLeecher settings before installing, even though you should be able to install this release over an older one without any problems.

Also note that the previous NewsLeecher beta release - v3.91 beta 2 - wasn't announced correctly, so you might have missed it.

For a complete version history for both the v3.91 beta 2 version, and the just released v3.95 beta 1 version, please check this post.
