Re: Newsleecher not working

I contacted them directly, and it seems they had a problem, at least with SSL on the US news server, although they didn't exactly say they did. But after pointing it out to them, and asking me a couple of questions, they just said "Try it now". And it's working again at full speed. I'm IT for my co...

Selecting "Ignore Poster" gave me: Thread Exception #8177 - Please Report to Author and Restart Newsleecher <Argument out of range> Note that Ignore Poster has been throwing me asserts as of Beta 6. My list is probably a couple hundred long, and about 1 month ago, I had to wipe out half of the list ...

I consistently get "Thread Exception #8177" when attempting to add posters to the block list. The error pops before the Ignore Posters dialog comes up (with just an OK button), and isn't caught by the bug-reporting system. After that point, the program doesn't respond, and you have to kill it via Ta...

Re: Same problem - long filenames lead to illegally long temp names

In my old version of newsleecher, it would just punt and put the file in the download directory. Now it refuses to do ANYTHING and I'm forced to fire up some other news reader and download all the headers to get the file. Instead of giving up and REFUSING to do ANYTHING, please put the file SOMEWHE...

I'm not even using RnE, and this still didn't work. For now, I figured out I can select the items in the queue, and override their download location with a much higher directory.

Still getting errors saying "NewsLeecher has disconnected, because a temporary download file could not be created." Example: http://s3.postimage.org/dfvHr.jpg It seems like NL could easily attempt to create a temp dir at the root of the user-specified download dir (or better, the directory created f...

Why is B14 throwing up a messagebox everytime I queue up articles for smart-leech? Seems like a debug message got left in the code. Also curious to know if the "unable to save TEMP files to long directory name" halt has been fixed.

v4b13 is the first release I've run into this, though it was probably introduced when temp files started to be written to destination directories, rather than the AppData store. When the destination directory is VERY long, NL is unable to resolve that directory. I know NL will normally dump files ba...

v4b13 cannot create temp-files in LOOOOOONG directory names

NL seems to be choking on humongously-long directory names to create TEMP files within. For example, when I try to download a file, I get the error: 6:30:57 PM * Error Message: The system cannot find the path specified Could not open file (-1, d:\alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.indie\( XXXXXXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXX...

Typing in the "article subjects filter" works fine (much faster than Beta 7, thank you!!!), but now, if headers are still downloading, they will be added to the filtered list at the bottom. The only way to avoid this is either to wait until article headers have completed refreshing, or go back to th...

It's great that issues like this are being fixed: *: The code for checking the availability of disk space on the download drives has been improved. NewsLeecher will now check for needed disk space no matter whether the downloading articles will be placed in the default download location, on a USB st...

Right-click actions on server groups in connection pane has no effect

Right-clicking on a server group, rather than an individual connection within multiple connections to the same server, doesn't have any effect. You must select all the individual connections within a server group if you want the right-click action to take effect. This is true for all 4 right-click a...

Hitting CTRL+R to read articles while all 4 of my threads are busy downloading headers keeps the article in the queue. In beta 9 (not sure about #10), it would correctly escalate the article to "read" over other threads, so you didn't have to wait 1/2 hour for the queue to finally start downloading ...

Default d/l folder only used at time of queueing, not all the time???

This behavior is one of the most puzzling decisions I've seen ... The default download folder (Options / Download) is only being used when the article is selected for queueing. If you change the download folder with files still in the queue, these files will continue to use the OLD location, and not...

Hmm, not repro at the moment, so I'll need to see what I did beforehand. Probably had something to do with subscribing to groups.
