Sloooow downloads

Post by steveh57 »

Hi,

For the last couple of days, header downloads have been very, very slow.
I'm currently trying to download headers at <30 KB/sec which is ridiculous.

I've tried both servers, cleared the cache and my ISP doesn't seem to have any problems.
Broadband speed tests say my connection is ok.

Article download has also slowed down (I normally d/l at 12 Mb/sec and I'm currently getting half of that.

Any ideas?

I have had the same problem, headers very slow almost to nothing while processing. Downloading is fine it's just the headers. I change the port back and forth between each newsgroup to get a faster processing of the headers.

Port 563 for encrypted SSL and 119 for non-encrypted connections. If needed, the following ports are also available: 23, 443, 3128, 7000, 8000 and 9000 for non-encrypted connections. Port 80 and 81 for encrypted SSL connections.

Yes for NewsLeecher Usenet service it's important to change the address to servers nearest your location :

Europe: eu.newsleecher.com
US: us.newsleecher.com

pls try to change the ports afterwards and test:

The service uses standard connection ports.
Encryption SSL: Port 563
other SSL: 80,81

Non-SSL: Port 119
other Non SSL: 23, 443, 3128, 7000, 8000 and 9000

As of this morning I am using SSL 563 and it seems to be a lot better. I always use us.newsleecher.com.

Thanks for the replies,

I tried port 563 on the US server and it wouldn't even connect. However 443 'seems' to be working ok at the moment.

I'll continue to monitor.

Cheers

Spoke too soon,

It did the majority of the headers, but now we're down to the last 4 mil or so, d/l speed is back to nearly nothing.
