Re: Correct syntax for searching for poster?
Precede the poster's name (or partial name) with "Poster:" (without the quotes). If you don't find any posts, maybe there aren't any at least in the SuperSearch index. To prove it works, use it for a poster's name you know exists. Example: Poster:(SP)

Re: Download Speed
Also, how many bots are you using? In NL 7.0 Final, Manager tab, Edit Server, Bots. One bot would be slow. More would be faster, up to a point. The ideal number depends on many factors so just try different numbers to see what's best. Around 10 works for me. The bit rate reported by NewsLeecher will...

Re: What is the difference between WPA wpa2 and WEP? What is the best encryption to use in WIFI?
All of those have some security issues. WPA2 is the best of them and commonly available. WPA3 is better yet but not supported everywhere. WEP is worthless. Don't use it.
Here's one link that discusses WPA3 and earlier versions: What Is WPA3, and When Will I Get It On My Wi-Fi?

Re: Downloaded Files with no extension?
If you have a related par2 file, QuickPar might be able to recognize and rename them. NL should have a similar ability (V7: Repair, V8: Auto Repair) but it doesn't work very reliably.

Re: Graph and download bots no longer showing
I was able to duplicate the problem in V8 but not undo it there. However, I have V7 installed in a separate directory but using the same data and temp directories. I was able to fix it there, which also fixed it in V8. In V8, if you drag the size of the graph and bot list down to nothing, then try t...

Have you read NL's Site News for 9/7/2020? It covers this.

Bacnek Engine?
The 8/17/2020 NL news post says

I (kind of) understand what a backend engine is, but what is a bacnek engine?SuperSearch has been down for some time, due to a bug in the bacnek engine.

Re: Has the V8 beta died?
AmigaMan, You can use as many versions of NewsLeecher (V4 and later) as you want. Don't uninstall the old one or install the new one over the old. Install it in another directory. You can only run one at a time but you can close one and run another. I currently have V7 and 10 V8 betas installed. The...

Re: Has the V8 beta died?
I have V7 and several of the V8 Betas installed so that I can run the one I want. So far I've seen only one improvement over V7 but it's a big one: the ability to properly rename unscrambled files. I usually use Beta 3 because later ones try to save files to a directory named after the entire subjec...

Re: Can't exit
You should be able to close it with Task Manager. Either right-click the Start button (the Windows logo usually in the lower left corner) or press Ctrl-Alt-Del, then select Task Manager. Right-click on NewsLeecher.exe and select End task. For me, NL never asks whether to do group cleanup, it just do...

Re: No Bots displayed
There should be a double up-arrow to the right of the subscription message (Ready-To-Go for you) but I don't see it in the image you posted. If it's there, click it to restore the bot list (it will change to a double down-arrow). Or do Ctrl+Alt+H.

Re: Lost all subscribed newsgroups, saved searches, everything!
If you redirected your NewsLeecher Data and Temp folders by creating a newsleecher.ini file in your NewsLeecher program directory as described here , and if that file got deleted or corrupted, then NL would revert to its default location for them, giving you the symptoms you described. The default l...

Re: Filter within retrieved list
They've changed it so that it's still available but in a much less useful way. There's no secondary filter as there is in v7. After doing a search with too many results you can add more filters to the primary search box and the result will be immediate. You don't have to search again. However, it do...
