Error Message-Cannot create temporary file. Newsleecher then goes offlne

I am having a terrible time acquiring message (file parts) that seem to have fairly long descriptions as the only thing I can find in common. The actual file name doesn't seem to be long, just the description as seen in the "Articles" display. I have not found a specific number, but I had similiar p...

If it could just test the file and RESUME the transfer if necessary. Much like FTP programs operate. It seems to me that earlier versions did just that, but now it just redownloads the whole thing appending a 1 or 2 or 7 or however many times NL crashed during the session.

I am having a similiar problem with header names that are likely more than 256 characters. I haven't counted but someone went nuts patting themselves on the back and promoting then you get to the actual content description. When NL tries to act on these it tosses up an error message about the temp f...

I have found that downloading just a few headers in a group, then wiping the cache for that group (right click on the group) will fix the problem. The next time you get headers, all will be in sync. Annoying, but at least there seems to be a word around, at least for mine.

Solution? I see where it will do a backup every 15 minutes, but mine sill acts just as it always did. Nothing new or good here. Just begin again.

Same thing here only I load a lot of virtual groups at once so I can search them all at once. There is no way to enable more memory in a Vista 32 machine and that includes virutal memory. I cannot see how you can run out of memory. Happens all the time and I just ignore it. I could send the notice 5...

Mine acts like a brand new install and forgets EVERYTHING. Severs, groups subscribed, que, articles, the whole ball of wax. It does this on the install of every new beta. No exceptions and I guess I am just stupid enough to trust that this won't happen again. Usually it is alright after the first ru...

Thanks, Smudge. I'll go through those tonight and see what I can find. I will also check the permission on the external drive, although I have full permissions on it in my log on name, is there a system name that has to have access privileges? That could be it. I am running 11 now and everything sin...

I have found that on the first download of posts, if you don't have the it set to "no limit" on the number of headers, it will not get all the headers and you will have to delete the cache for that group and begin again. Man, it's hard to keep NL going long enough to get boneless <G>.

So far, I have not gotten the pausing message (of course it forgets all my groups and articles every time I start 11, so I haven't had a chance to download anything.) What I do notice is that the transfer rate is incredibly slow. I used to get 760 Mbps using 9 and I am lucky to get 130 with 11. I ha...

Memory issues

I continously get debug messages that I am out of memory. I have 4 gigs in a 32 bit Vista install and have upped my virtual memory to ridiculous levels, yet I still get these messages when I select a fair number of groups. Isn't there a way around this?

Beta 11 Doesn't Remember Groups or Settings

I have had this problem before when switching to new betas, but never after the first run. Every time I run Beta 11, I don't have a server or any groups or any of the articles I waited painfully for. Yet when I add my server, all the groups show up in the list. The groups do not show up as subscribe...

When I install to a different drive letter, will there be any problems with lost pointers or files or will they update to the new drive letter?

That solution is going to work for me.

Thanks,

Loss of external drive cause problem?

I am trying to put as much of the storage burden on a USB external drive as my laptop has a smallish C drive. I think this problem crops up when that drive is not available (spun down, unplugged, whatever). Perhaps I am not correctly setting this up. Can you provide some guidance on how I should acc...
