Re: Newsleecher V8 Beta Release - Timeline

While I would dearly love to be proven wrong, I predict that there will be no V8 (beta or otherwise) before the end of March at the earliest. How about January 5? That's the date Spiril posted a link to a beta , Newsleecher 8.0 Beta 1 unofficial forum release #4. Don't expect perfection. It's a bet...

Re: Can you browse just whole groups without searching?

If I understand what you wanted, that's one of NL's normal options. On the Manager tab, subscribe to the newsgroups you're interested in. On the Articles tab, check the box next to the one(s) you want to see headers for. Right-click to select the number of headers or days to download in all groups. ...

Re: de-obfustication idea/request

It would be good if NL would rename the file after downloading it. Maybe in version 8. Update: Definitely in version 8. Check out this thread which has Spiril's link to an unofficial beta. It does exactly what you asked for. The new layout will take a bit of getting used to but no real problem. Tha...

Re: de-obfustication idea/request

In Advanced Tweaks you can set "Download Descript.ion File Enabled" to TRUE. That will save both the name and subject of each downloaded file to a hidden file called descript.ion in the same directory. Descript.ion originated with JP Software's 4DOS, an alternative to the MS command processor in the...

Add a universal Stop button

Sometimes I accidentally tell NL to do something that will take a long time, such as when I intend to delete a large block of headers but hit the Enter key instead (they're next to each other on my numeric keypad) and NL starts to download them all. I want to stop it but that takes several steps (pa...

Allow filter to delete unwanted headers during download

When updating headers in many groups, the large number can overload NewsLeecher and bring it to a standstill. Many headers are spam (e.g. 774 byte headers) and sometimes I want to get headers only from a particular poster and reject the rest. After the download (often having to kill NL with Task Man...

Allow filter to find certain files in a set

I'm not sure "set" is the correct term but I'm talking about one line containing several files with a + sign that can be clicked on to expand to show the individual files. Suppose that under the Articles tab I have a large number of headers and I want to download all of the primary par2 files (those...

Variable passwords

In addition to the list of fixed RAR passwords known to NewsLeecher, allow a combination of fixed characters and variables. One variable should be the filename, another might be the poster's name and there may be others. So you might have a password like: "19"+%filename% It might also be useful to t...

Re: Shutdown (or exit) program after all downloads complete

I just responded to you in another thread, but to repeat: 1) Start a download. 2) Click on the Queue tab. 3) Click on When Empty. A drop-down menu offers several options including Close Newsleecher and Turn Off Computer. The other choices are Disconnect From Usenet and Run Command Line. There's also...

Re: Quit Newsleecher when downloads complete

I'm surprised nobody said how to do this. In version 7 (and I think 4 and maybe earlier):

1) Start a download.
2) Click on the Queue tab.
3) Click on When Empty. A drop-down menu offers several options including Close Newsleecher and Turn Off Computer.

Is SuperSearch Unencrypted?

I'm running Newsleecher 7.0 Final with SSL encryption enabled on port 563. I just signed up for your "Ready to Go" plan and, wouldn't you know, SuperSearch is down (the status page says you're migrating it to a new server). In researching it I looked at NL's News & Log tab. It says SS tried to conne...

Currently we do not have a help manual but we are working on one. Until then, here are some tutorials on how to setup NewsLeecher and general usenet usage. Perhaps these will answer your questions.
