Service Article Retention - What's Up?

Is Service Article Retention something that fluctuates? I see someone noted it was around 3000 days in January 2018, but right now it shows 2,224.92 days on the status page. I've seen complaints saying it wasn't updating, but I can find new stuff without issue right now (circa 3 days, for instance). But, there is stuff I have no problem getting from the server, but I'm not finding with the corresponding search. Will I be able to see the circa 3000 day stuff again in SuperSearch, or is it lost in the ether now?

EDIT: Today (24 October 2018) I see the status page news, and the updated 'Service Article Retention - 2,969.29 Days'. Glad to know work still proceeds. KUTGW!!

On the status page I read: Binary Groups Retention 3,870.71 Days... That seems nice, but can anyone explain to me why SuperSearch doesn't show any posts older than 2230 days in the normal binaries groups and no posts older than 30 days in the ❤ groups?

Of course I noticed on the status page also the following SS info: Service Article Retention 2,236.04 Days.
Why only 2236 days? When will SS be back to 'normal'? SS was one of the main reasons for me to choose for a Newsleecher account ages ago.

Fluctuation is one thing but 'low' definately means low today. Yesterday I had hopes that good old SS was alive again. In the ❤ groups SS behaved quite normal, showing posts that were over 2000 days old. But today SS can't find anything older than 29 days. In the General category 1800 days seems to be the maximum.

A bit more information what we can expect would be very nice. I assume these fluctuations have something to do with the upcoming version 8 of NL, correct me if I 'm wrong please.
