Please add this group to Super Search

Post by Reefke » Wed Nov 03, 2004 4:26 am

I noticed that SS doesn't cover a.b.hipclone :?
There is many good stuff posted in that group, so it would be nice if that group was included in SS :)

how about automatically adding new groups in alt.binaries.*? sometimes it's hard to request a new group if you don't even know it exists :)

Yep, that's a great idea. I'll have to develop a small app that automatically adds the new alt.bin* groups to the SS engine.

But there might also be other bin groups outside the alt.bin* hierachy I've missed.

Groups already added

Post by gdavis » Sat Nov 06, 2004 5:37 am

Is there a way to tell what groups are already being searched? Other than the obvious of searching for something that you know is in the group....

a.b.dvd.music if it isnt there allready.

I tried to find "back to the" SS says it doesn exist/ no results.

newzbin.com finds them, so or the group doesnt exist of SS doesnt work :-)

tried image, sound and other, but it didnt found anything

Try it without the quotes. Use the "Audio" category.

when was it posted? ss's retention is still building up, although it says you can search 21 days back, in reality it's still 11 days or so

true. you might consider adding all groups with a high article count (high probability of a binary group, you might catch some hightraffic discussion groups) then kick out all groups that do not carry any files (you'll have to scan for files-posts anyway, so this shouldn't be too hard anyway). once those discussion groups are banned from SS, you don't have to scan them for files anymore.

the possibility to scan ALL binary groups no matter which hierarchy would be a big plus for SS compared to other fileindexing services.

Yep. Good idea. I'll look into that when I get the time ... But in the meantime, pls let me know if I should add a specific bin group amnually!

Erikro,

Can you tell exactly what you are looking for? If I search for "back to the" at newzbin I get tons of hits.

If you don't want to tell it in the forum, just PM me ;)
