No, I do not see anything there either.

sort of moved...:

I'm still trying to figure out what Newsleecher does in respect of the super search feature...

It was said that this feature is built in and the connection to the "special server" is done automatically after program start.

OK. What I found is the following:
I'm running NL under a german WinXP proSP2 with Outpost 2.5 running and rules set up according to the needs defined in another thread.

When NL is running, it does create an additional sub-process which grabs 33MB of memory and gets CPU-time regularly.

This sub-process opens and closes the root folder of the partition where my defined download-folder resides.

But nothing else happens. The firewall dows not report any access. There is no error message appearing.

If I click on the search menu and choose super search I can read: search in progress please wait...

Is this forum read by the developpers as well?

I'd very much like to understand the technical side of what's going on here...

ah now we're getting somewhere

i think you're experiencing the same problems as in this thread
i also believe a (less-than-ideal) way to fix it is mentioned

err what? could you repeat that more precisely please?

Meanwhile I've tried NL in it's latest beta on three different machines - two at home using the same router and DSL connection one in my office with permanent connection to the Internet. SS does not work on any of these machines, be it with or without firewalls involved.

If it has something to do with DNS again I'd like to hear from some official how they recommend to handle this issue!?

The software is sold for money and this feature seems to be sort of a "key feature". I'm well aware that connecting to the Internet is a very complex issue. But I'd really like to be able to at least test (and better: use) this feature on a german installation using german ISPs and DNS facilities.

I'm puzzled that the NL support does not react on requests of registered users... like me... :(

If it is a DNS resolving problem, you could manually add the IP addresses that are used by NewsLeecher to your hosts file. (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts).

Add these lines to the hosts file, save, then reboot.

Thanks for the advice. It does not help though...

Is there someone in Germany reading this thread who's managed to get this thing going? If so I'd very much like to know some more details...

I'm disappointed about the poor "official" support for NL and it's key features... still not received answers to my emails.

For me "super search" at this point is just useless to say it politely 8)

the fix that was mentioned was to go to the control panel in windows, under "regional and language options"->advanced tab set "language for non uni-code programs" to "english (united states)"
i have no idea what all these things are called in german if you have a german installation.
it's less than ideal because it might disable some of your language specific characters
a fix for this has been requested, but spiril hasn't given any comment so far

i guess we could, if you give us some more information. just stating it doesn't work doesn't really give us much to work with...

Is it Super Search that doesn't work for you?

You have to be a registered user to use the Super Search engine. If you don't have a creditcard, you have register by cheque instead.

If you aren't talking about Super Search, please be more specific about what isn't working. Are you unable to startup NewsLeecher or are you unable to connect to a usenet server with NewsLeecher, or ... ?

there are quite a few dutch users on these boards, so if your english isn't that good, you can always try dutch (english is still preferred though)

SS has worked fine for days. Today though it said "Super Search (Initializing)" on the tab all afternoon. I had done a successful search earlier in the afternoon.

Shut down NL and resarted it, and it started up OK. Just thought I should tell someone that NL SS does still occasionally stop working.
