I am TOTALLY frustrated !!!!!! :? :? :?

I own an XP sp2 system with the latest gear on it...

I've tried EVERY possible way through this PROBLEM (cleared cache from both IE anf FF, looked into firewall, eventhough nothing had changed during SS working days, even the license key changed).

NOTHING HAPPENS. THE SUPER(???)SEARCH ENGINE IS DOWN SEVERAL DAYS NOW, AND IT KEEPS STAYING THAT WAY...... :x :x :x

Please, give me a SOLUTION. QUICK. :!: :!:

see in the forum (supersearch topic) the link to a rootsupdate from the MS site!! It is a selfextracting exe file and it works!! :P

The root certificate update is detailed in the Getting Super Search to Work thread.
Please be aware of and use the following pages...
Services Status Page : SuperSearch and Usenet Access server status, retention, server load, indexing time, etc.
Support Request Form : Use this if you have a problem with billing or account status. The forum is only for NewsLeecher application issues.

is SS working for ANYONE?

it worked ramdomly for me a on the 12th after being dead for a whole day
but it hasn't worked since then

front page still says getting new servers "very soon" even though the post is a week old

at least I get a response from the server now, the first couple of days it would just hang on "waiting for response"

Down for me since about 3 days now. Already fetched a new key.

Will someone finally fix this? We are paying for it! :?

I have to admit the Internet Explorer SSL and Root Certificates were the problem :oops: . I updated it and walla! :D I obtained it from the following link. I hope it works for you guys too.

I'm hoping it stays working. :roll:

Yes, it worked!

Well, regarding the fact that the news of NL are also not working because of certificate problems, this makes sense. But why isn't NL telling this? If it can't connect to the news page, it should put a message into the log.
The same with the SS. Where do we know that is seems to use SSL?

So here's the hoops I'm jumped through:
Installed new root certificates.
Added the two adresses in trusted zones in IE.
Installed the certificate.
Disabled my firewall.
Made sure system dates wore correct (in windows and BIOS).
Changes regional settings to english (US).
Restarted NL about 50 times. ;)
Tried the alternate port settings in NL.
Cleared the IE cache (I even tried clearing everything so now I have to put in all my passwords all over again).
Tried setting IE security to Low.
Tried the alpha version (3.9b9T1) of NL.
Checked the HOST file.

I also tried a bunch of random stuff that I don't even remember now.
Status:
Instead of just hanging at awaiting response it now spits out an error message after quite some time (Unable to recieve a reply from the ...").
Also, in the 3.8b8 release which is dependent on IE I could see the newspage. In the 3.9b9T1 release I can't see the news page.


So I've spent all this time, put my computer at risk, lost my passwords (due to overdiligence on my behalf but still) and still I can't get the damned thing to work.

Important to note is that on my side NOTHING has changed from the day SS worked 'til the day it stopped working.

When the problems started I could sporadically reach the XXX search and one single time I could reach the general SS search.
Now I can reach neither.

Undac,

Pls try installing NewsLeecher v3.9 beta 9 and see if the following line is reported in the NewsLeecher log:

"SuperSearch has successfully initialized ...".

Do you see that line, or does the log report that it couldn't initialize SuperSearch?

Also, just below the "SuperSearch has initialized" log line, there is a SuperSearch connection info log line. Could you copy/paste that and post it here?
bug fixed. no idea how. hate it when that happens. trying to break it again now. will. not. be. defeated.

Just reinstalled vista, applied fixes and workarounds, still it says supersearch initializing......

Try to restart NewsLeecher and see if that helps. I think SuperSearch works for you now. If it doesn't, pls post your NL log again.
bug fixed. no idea how. hate it when that happens. trying to break it again now. will. not. be. defeated.

Nope, sorry to say, still same.
Only difference is now i see the actual portnumbers used.....
