Folder+ File Longer then 260 Characters

When ever NL gets to a d/l where the folder and file are longer then 260 characters long NL will go off line and displaces a box stating that fact.

I have looked over and over and I can not find any way of changing to change how to handle this.

This is a Windows file system limitation so it isn't a setting you can control.

NL should be able to detect if the folder+file path is longer than 260 characters though. Could truncate or prompt the user on queue add on how to handle. Or make it a setting.

I've ran into this issue many times myself. It prevents me from using the 'leech smart' mode and I always use Specify now.

Have to agree with this suggestion - I never use leech smart as I'm afraid I'll come back and see loads of red in the NL log. Even if the folder name was rudely chopped down to fit I'd be happier than wasted time and bandwidth.

And Windows supports filenames up to 32768 characters...

NewsLeecher should already take care of too long paths, by truncating. But I might have missed something when implementing the check. What exact error message do you get when encountering the problem ?

It's been a while since I ran into this because I now make sure the path length is very short - but before moving away from Leech Smart I seem to recall most of the failures were when RnE is trying to extract/repair it. Maybe the check is correct for the downloading but not for what RnE does with it?

Looks like you're right :) Did you recently enable this check? Don't seem to recall it happening a beta release or two ago. I'm on 6.3B2
