Ubuntu with NL crashing. Reasons? How do I fix?

I have been using NL on wine for quite some time. I was very satisfied with the stability of the last 3.8 Beta versions. Meanwhile I upgraded to 3.9b2.

By the time, Ubuntu went through the normal standard upgrading procedures for wine and the meanwhile 8.04 os, and all this went fine over the last year or so.

There are two things that changed and I don't know why.

First, the starting process tiime was low during 3.8 all the time; 20 minutes were normal. Then, with 3.9, all this seemd to speed up shortly after install. Meanwhile, I am back again to the old starting time.

I cannot see a change of my usage behavoir. What happened here? What influences the starting time process and what causes its delays or fast initializations?

Since two days or so, I have a permanent leecher crash. The startup runs normal, I have to wait for 20 Minutes, and the account is found, everything seems to be normal.

As autostart download is active, the download starts immediately after loading. I can shortly see the download graphic. And after two seconds the leecher closes the window without any message. wine follows a second later.

Is there a way to activate some debug logging, so that I can see where and why it crashed? And where is the information stored that tells Newsleecher where to find its accounts? Where is the download queue stored?

The reason I ask this is because I uninstalled (wine uninstall.exe) and reeinstalled the leecher as a first step, but I still have the old configuration after reinstall and I dont know where it is located oder what registry entry is linked to the location. After the reinstall, the system crashes again, using the same configuration data. I will have to delete those accounts and queues to get it run again.

How is this done? I think I still miss some old configs, and I assume the new install doesn't create new config files as long as it finds old ones.

Or is there another way to get around all this?

Please see viewtopic.php?t=13822 for more info about Linux, Wine and NewsLeecher.
See viewtopic.php?t=6766 for where NL stores its config. For Wine, it's not in Documents and Settings, but in the Windows\profile folder.

I am also having issues with NL and Ubuntu but unfortunately I can't read the links posted above. Any good reason for this?
I have to add that I used NL for a long time in Ubuntu with no problems and can't find my old versions anymore :-(

It can be various reasons to crash on Ubuntu with NL so fix an unresponsive X Server, jump onto another computer and use SSH to access Ubuntu, press Alt + SysRq + press “REISUB” in order to terminate all running process to make it smoother & Chroot from Live CD. Try these methods may be one of them will work.

Thanks both of you for the answers. @mettsmithforum I did not explain the problem clearly. It is not Ubuntu that crashes but NL, it does not start at all.
@Shalom2010 that link is worth gold :-)
