Download speeds are drastically changing.

This just started happening but my speeds change quite drastically when downloading. They will spike to 1.5MB/s then drop to zero about 10 to 20 times per 20 min. Sometimes the speeds level off at 800KB/s for awhile but then start spiking again.

Any idea what may be causing this?

Check your connection performance. Get some large file and download it, you might want to download several in a row, so you know how stable it is. If that fluctuates too, then NL is not the problem. If it doesn't, it might be your ISP that is traffic shaping on the port used by usenet. If your USP provides several ports you can use to connect to it, try a different port.
Fill in your bugs so NL will get better.
