HELP ! Do you have the previous Newsleecher beta still for download ?

Post by BlizzardUK »

I just installed the new Beta and my whole newsleecher is messed up. I have lost all the usenet accounts I had and I keep getting endless error messages pop up upon start up. I have re-put in all the servers but they are gone again the next time I load the software. I have uinstalled and reinstalled many times. The last beta was fine.

Error message is : "Server hostname is empty" and the cryptic error code is.........

BUG ID: 50007
DATLN1: jq8jq8j
DATLN2: data error
DATLN3:

If the error is only coming up because there are no severs then this is because they keep vanishing everytime I load the software. I can't seem to shake off the splash screen or bug error message even when I have typed in all server names. I also get a different error message about address access violation when trying to access the Supersearch tab.

Perhaps one of your configuration files is corrupted.

If you are using 4.0 or later, you can hold down F12 when starting the application and it will ask if you wish to load your configuration files. Start with not loading the General Settings File by answering No and it will launch NewsLeecher with the default settings. Immediately quit NewsLeecher to save the default settings to disk. Then launch NewsLeecher again and it should start up with default settings and hopefully no error messages. If you get more errors, try the same procedure for the other setting files.

If using an earlier version, you will need to manually remove the setup.dat file. You can find the location and explanation of each configuration file at viewtopic.php?t=6766

If that doesn't resolve the problem, try moving all of the .dat files out of the configuration data directory and run NewsLeecher again. If there error goes away then it was one of those files. You could move a few of the files back in until you find the corrupt file.

Uninstalling and reinstalling will not remove the configuration files.
Please be aware of and use the following pages...
Services Status Page : SuperSearch and Usenet Access server status, retention, server load, indexing time, etc.
Support Request Form : Use this if you have a problem with billing or account status. The forum is only for NewsLeecher application issues.

Thanks. In the end I had to remove the whole settings directory, the safe startup F12 didn't seem to help as it still gave errors. I tried renaming some of the BAK files and overwriting the normal ones, but that didn't work either. So I just decided to start from scratch and removed the whole directory for the settings and reinstalled, and touch wood, it seems to be okay now, although I have lost all my groups and settings but at least it seems to work now with the latest beta.

Thanks for the help.
