Windows 10 problem

Post by reg64 » Sun Aug 09, 2015 10:04 am

Since updating to Windows 10, Newsleecher now asks me time and again what program I want to use to open a .jpg , .png, .gif or other image file.
I've set the default program to Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10. Other programs including File Explorer, Total Commander etc don't have a problem with this. They follow the protocol that I have selected.
Nevertheless Newsleecher endlessly asks what program to use, time and time again. Even though I check the box to say 'always use this program'.
How retarded is that? And to think that I pay good money for this piece of sTuff each month.

Looking, looking, for an alternative now. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
I think I've subscribed long enough to not be screwed up the arse by this retarded piece of code.

I use ACDC to view pictures and don't have any problems.

I have been using Windows 10 since the day it was released and it is not Newsleecher that you have to set up. It is within Windows 10 that you have to set up jpg and other graphic pictures, and Newsleecher will pick them up fine. I have been using Windows 10 for the past 2 weeks and I am still setting up protocols.

I can fairly say that Newsleecher is not the problem

I believe reg64 is correct. I did new install of Win 10 and Newsleecher Beta never got FSViewer to open jpg's. They constantly opened in notepad. *.mkv's opened fine.

I decided to go back to the released Newsleecher version and *.jpg's open. I do like Beta 7 though and as soon as it is resolved I will go back but don't know how to resolve it?

I was using V5.0 final and was always being asked what program to use to open a pic, so I moved to V7.0 beta 7 but the same thing is happening. I have set Windows 10 to Photo Viewer as the default for image files, so there isn't any more I can do there. The other programs I use are all happy to use Photo Viewer so I conclude it must be some incompatibility between Newsleecher and Windows 10. I hope it can be resolved soon because it's just so bloody annoying.

Ironic how similar our issue is. I was using 7.7 and went to 5 which is ok. It may still be Wndows though but it is all suspiciously.

Exact same issue, updated to Windows 10 and had to revert back to 5.0 Final to get the JPG to not open in notepad.

also been a good customer for years and years, please fix in upcoming Beta

I Installed Forte Agent to see if that overcame the problem. While Agent has its own thumbnail viewer which works fine, if you ask it to launch the image the same thing happens. Over and over it will ask what program you want to use to view the pic, even though you check the 'always use' box. So I must apologise to the nice people at Newsleecher. It seems to be a Windows 10 prob.

On Windows 10 Settings System screen, go to the bottom of the screen and select : Set Defaults By App. It gives you a list of applications and just select the app that you to use as your default for the file extension.

I tried all the other options and got nowhere until at the bottom I saw the above. So now, I don't bother with the other options for setting defaults.

Unfortunately that does not work for me. When I double click jpg in 7.7 it opens with Notepad. Have tried changing txt to Wordpad and jpg to Win 10 native Photo viewer. Nope.....

Is this an integration issue between Newsleecher 7/7 and WIN 10 possibly? Newsleecher 5 and WIN 10 work great together?

Anyone
