3.95 beta 2 issues

Post by prof72 » Thu Oct 30, 2008 12:04 am

3.95 beta2 reporting virus (Themida) with nod32.

Anyone confirm this is a false positive or real please.

I tend to trust nod32 as it's the best on the market.

btw beta1 and all prev versions were fine.

Yep here too.

Here NOD32 with Virus signature database 3567 is recognizing is-XXXXX.tmp as a virus during setup while extracting NewsLeecher.exe.

I will wait for the next update...

Me too.

When attempting to install 3.95 beta 2, NOD32 says there's a virus.

"C:\Program Files\NewsLeecher\newsLeecher.exe - a variant of Win32/Packed.Themida application - cleaned by deleting (after the next restart) - quarantined"

just like with 3.95 beta 1, the AV programs are reporting a false threat for 3.95 beta 2. We will have to wait for them to release an updated definition file.

If you want to go back to 3.95 beta 1, you can download it from here

Just tried to fire up Newsleecher v3.95 beta 2 this morning (was working fine last night when I first installed it) and my anti virus package (AVG) has blocked it from running claiming it's a trojan.

Previous beta release I know was trapped by an anti-virus package but it looks like this latest release is getting stomped on by all (most) of the main anti virus packages?

I've tried instructing AVG to ignore the threat, but it wont let beta 2 start up... guess it's back to beta 1 until a fix can be found :(

Just for info....

I've just re-installed v3.95 beta 1 after beta 2 got clobbered by my anti-virus package and glad to report that beta 1 is not trapped as a trojan :)

Wonder what it is in these latest releases that is causing the anti-virus packages to give up a false positive?

I hope this is not because of more anti cracking protection but it probably is. I uploaded it on virustotal and it is being flagged by several different AV vendors as different names. If this is part of the anti-crack protection, I hope another method is chosen before the final release. I will not use a program that causes my AV to sit there in high cpu every time I attempt to launch it. Any method of protection that uses the same as malware writers can not be a good idea. As seen by other companies that go overboard on protection, customers will just quit using the product.

I've just uploaded a test release, which should fix the antivirus detection problem:

http://www.newsleecher.com/nltest.exe

If it fixes the prob, I'll make it a new official release.
bug fixed. no idea how. hate it when that happens. trying to break it again now. will. not. be. defeated.
