I know how you feel, it did that to me with newshosting, and I had to verify the headers had been downloaded. It even managed the massive groups without problems too, and the program wasn't sluggish after loading so many headers, which it tended to do in previous versions.

Absolutely fantastic update, header download works a charm and the hideous 2-minute coma on startup is completely gone.

Scrollbar in connection window seems to have gone AWOL, but that's a minor issue.

same here; the startup problem is gone + header download and group handling is way faster and smoother now.

Unofficial Forum Test #2:

http://www.newsleecher.com/nl4b8.fr2.exe

This is what's changed since the previous forum release:
+: (Re)implemented the 'Export to NZB' feature for the SuperSearch
view.
+: It's now possible to post text replies to articles, directly
from the SuperSearch view.
+: All leech methods available in the group article browsing view,
are now also available in the SuperSearch view. Including all
the 'special leech' commands.
!: When exporting articles to an NZB file, the article poster
names were sometimes skipped. This has been fixed.

bug fixed. no idea how. hate it when that happens. trying to break it again now. will. not. be. defeated.

Thanks so much for putting back the export nzb option. This has been a much anticipated feature for me. Can you also put back the autosave feature so when I have a power outtage that it doesn't wipe everything I queued up?

This really is running a lot better than previous releases. I am amazed, thanks so much.

Req: Advanced Nerdy Tweak to clear the R&E list of finished items on close.

Everything seems to be working fine except scrolling in groups and supersearch.
With this release it's extremely slow/choppy to scroll through the list of headers. Sorta feels like a new windows installation running the standard VGA drivers without 2d acceleration.
EDIT: Checked the task manager and simply scrolling through a group takes up 100% of one of my CPUs the other core also spikes but only 30% or so. It never was fully smooth on my computer but it's crtainly much worse with this release. (Note that this is without any downloads going on nor header updating, nor is there any other software running in the background whatsoever, not even AV/FW etc)

a quick question for those in the know:
should there be any difference in performance when using SSL and/or header compression natively in the client or using it through giganews accelerator?

Here a good idea. If compression on headers work for your provider.
And it's not posted already. Say who works, if it doesn't say so too.
Works on newshosting.com. Super fast!

turbo compressed headers working on UseNetServer.

I do have a problem where it stops getting all headers before all headers are received

I just realized it isn't just scrolling, simply viewing any large group (mind you I have NOT ticked show old) will result in gigantic resource drain as long as I have NL windows open.
For example: I enter a group - everything grinds to a halt. I start a download and I get maybe 50Kb/s.
As soon as I minimize the windows it jumps to 5-6 MB/s.

Also simply exiting the group will result in the same thing. (ie speed turning back to normal)

I am not getting that issue. I loaded a.b.boneless, and it scrolls perfectly, no issues at all during a download. I keep my cache cleaned up when it has 15% garbage, headers and so forth for 7 days.

Sounds like your setup.dat configuration file is corrupt.

Please help us to research this corruption problem by sending a copy of the setup.dat to support@newsleecher.com.

You will need to locate and remove the setup.dat file. When you start NewsLeecher again, it will reset to default settings. You can find the location and explanation of each configuration file at viewtopic.php?t=6766

Uninstalling and reinstalling will not remove the configuration files.
Please be aware of and use the following pages...
Services Status Page : SuperSearch and Usenet Access server status, retention, server load, indexing time, etc.
Support Request Form : Use this if you have a problem with billing or account status. The forum is only for NewsLeecher application issues.

I can't seem to purge the groups. Is that not a feature any longer?
