the only final release is ancient and buggy and should have been classed beta by it's stability and lack of features anyway and there's nothing non-beta to try
so yeah, we can and will whine about this. get over it. you can't stop us posting, complaining so why are you doing it? making yourself feel superior by defending spiril et al?

Yep - it fits....
Just wanted to agree with this part: Note - no word yet. Its over 40 hours this bug surfaced. It may not be found easily before the date, but now, that it has surfaced it should take only minutes to find the reason and a quick fix. If somebody did look for it. If...tommo123 wrote:i juts came in here to complain about this too.
and yes, i can and will complain about a beta. don't like it - blow me. we have to use the betas and the last final release was ages ago and wasn't stable anyway.
i am paying for this service and am not getting my moneys worth. i am paying for supersearch and end up using the free binsearch site more often these days.
now this stupid date bug and no official word? no 'we're working on it', no ETA on a fix. nothing!
anyone know any decent alternatives to NL? paid for or not? tried grabit but doesn't suit me
But obviously nobody is interested enough. It takes only five minutes to post something, a statement, whatever. Nobody takes the time. Why should they? As long as they have free beta testers, they can live with it, as long as it takes.
Pity - NL was a nice program, as far as it went..
NO group article updates since 4/30/2010.
I'm using V4 beta 16 and since 4/30 I am not getting any newsgroup article updates for any newsgroups (Astraweb). Specifically, looking at alt.binaries.music and they stop at 4/30.
I still have NL Version 3.95 beta 3 and ran it and checked there and got updates for alt.binaries.music up to and through 5/2/2010, so I am pretty sure this is a bug with Newsleecher and not the Astraweb server.
(I'm not reporting a SuperSearch bug, but subsribing/downloading from a specific newsgroup.)
Can anyone else confirm this problem?

It has already been discussed in this and many other forum threads and is posted at the top of the main forum page. It is due to a date calculation bug so all new posts since May 1 appear 60 days older.JohnNL wrote:NO group article updates since 4/30/2010.

So basically until they fix it Newsleecher is useless for any files since May 1. Ah, well, excuse us, the problem is ours... not of the program, and tell me.. since when the developers know this issue? Because... certainly, if is before the release of beta 16... well... you know... launch a beta with errors like that... well... you know...Smudge wrote:It has already been discussed in this and many other forum threads and is posted at the top of the main forum page. But, eh, no problem, we're stupid to pay for betas that don't work, so...
pd: I'ven't found the old discussion messages where that bug was informed before may, 1
Oh, now the bug didn't exist before May, 1... oh well... WTF? The bug existed before!!! another matter is that the developer didn't know, but a bug isn't something that it's created some day without touching the code. It was there, but nobody could see it.
And the post by the moderator was something ambiguous and when i read it i thought that the matter was explained and discuted before may, 1.

It's a bug in the calculation and/or conversion of the date value retrieved from the server. Dates prior to May 1, 2010 were all calculated correctly, so at the time there was no bug to fix. Do you not remember the year 2000 hysteria?jdgdcg wrote:Oh, now the bug didn't exist before May, 1... oh well... WTF? It works with NZB's from third parties. I assume that's what it wanted to say after... 72 hours of silence.Hermann wrote:You write in the front of this forum
"but not NZB files."
It's not true. I have just created an NZB from NL and imported into NL again.
The date is the same as in the newsgroup. 60 Days old.
Ok. Sesame street here.Quaraxkad wrote:It's a bug in the calculation and/or conversion of the date value retrieved from the server. The bug existed. Period. If you write a text, when another person read it and found a mistake it's not that the mistake wasn't there until you read it. It was there, but nobody saw it.
Same with the bug. It was there, and until now nobody could see it. It's not hysteria. It's a fact.
Wow. My Group retention was set to 60 days. So, no wonder I couldn't find anything.Smudge wrote:It has already been discussed in this and many other forum threads and is posted at the top of the main forum page. Suggestion: Add a larger "Update latest xxxxx headers" number in Group Management so someone can catch up without retrieveing all headers of a group. With the larger and larger sized newgroups, the max now is 1,000,000 which isn't that much. Maybe two additional choices: 5,000,000 and 10,000,000.
This change would help when trying to adding a new group, especially since the new compressed headers are so much faster.
