Absolutely agreed on the "leech specify" request below. In fact, if the group that the item is from doesn't currently exist as a folder, then it won't be in the directory list that is presented.

More importantly, this functionality used to exist! What happened? I'm a big fan of this application, but am beginning to see what others are saying, that adding new features is diluting the functionality and stability of NL.

Is there a way to let 'leech specify' trace the group where the subject is in.
Is there a way to change the background color of the queue?

Btw, i'm using the beta 18.

Under Windows XP SP3, this version exits upon pressing the connect button if your subscription has run out. The dialog box that tells you your subscription has expired is not displayed.

So newsleecher creates the folder

Code: Select all

e:\Usenet\alt.binaries.multimedia\[25284]-[FULL]-[#a.b.qqqqqq@IRCxx]-[ Xxxxx.Xxxxxxxxx.2010.05.17.Yyyyyyy.Yyy.720p.HDTV.x264-ZZZZZZZZ ]- Xxxxx.Xxxxxxxxx.2010.05.17.Yyyyyyy.Yyy.720p.hdtv.x264-ZZZZZZZZ\
and then tries to save

Code: Select all

Xxxxx.Xxxxxxxxx.2010.05.17.Yyyyyyy.Yyy.720p.hdtv.x264-ZZZZZZZZ.nfo
, which fails, leaving the file in the temporay folder newsleecher automatically creates as

Code: Select all

"e:\Usenet\alt.binaries.multimedia\[25284]-[FULL]-[#a.b.teevee@EFNet]-[ David.Letterman.2010.05.17.Matthew.Fox.720p.HDTV.x264-BAJSKORV ]- david.letterman.2010.05.17.matthew.fox.720p.hdtv.x264-bajskorv\!! newsleecher temporary !!\1972862650"
Now, of course I can't delete the above created folders without first quitting Newsleecher. NL, for some reason, has a lock on the folder...

Oh, and while the downloads are rolling I get a bunch of bug dialogue-boxes, and nothing happends when I click the "automatically send error report"...

And another thing... if you need to create a temporary folder how about using...Oh I dunno.. the %TEMP% folder? Or a definable folder? Why clutter up my folders with a bunch of crap that more often than not leads to file locks and irritation.

Reported in b12, 13, 14 and now 18 (always had enough space when using 16 and 17).
Cannot change destination in R+E when original destination is full, ie. status shows "Not Enough Disk Space".

Bug in header download - persists until b17

Post by Marilith »

There is a massive bug with NL, since compressed headers were introduced until beta 17:

Here my setup: XP Prof SP3, NL beta 17, Giganews (encrypted). I do not use the Giganews tool, i.e. NL connects directly.

Sometimes various groups seem either to forget their cache state, or something is read incorrectly. The entire group is fetched anew! Even if the last update was on the same day, it fetches all headers. The _seems_ to be connected to only few new headers being available, but I am unsure about this. IMHO something goes wrong with compression/encryption. But NL does not think it useful to report an error, despite the fact that it should see, that its existing cache and the header somehow do not fit together.

This is not only annoying, it is a mess, since I carefully delete Spam from my caches, and after this bug its all back again.

It makes compression _unusable_ for me. (Sometimes I switch it on to verfiy if the bug is still here. It is. Since months...)

*sigh*
