de-obfustication idea/request
First, I *LOVE* the new de-obfustication feature, but...
It would be great if the de-obfusticated name was retained somewhere along with the file(s). Right now, all I see are folders and files with the same de-obfusticated names after the messages have been removed from my download queue. Manually re-searching for the obfusticated names to find out what's what is a real pain in the ***. Perhaps the folder could be a combination of the de-obfusticated and obfusticated names ?
PLEASE?

In Advanced Tweaks you can set "Download Descript.ion File Enabled" to TRUE. That will save both the name and subject of each downloaded file to a hidden file called descript.ion in the same directory. Descript.ion originated with JP Software's 4DOS, an alternative to the MS command processor in the dear, dead DOS days, as a way to add lengthy descriptions to files.
Few programs support descript.ion files these days but they're just text files so if you can set your file manager to show hidden files or unhide the files, you can load them into a text editor. I still use ACDSee Classic 2.43 as my primary file manager because it supports descript.ion files (later versions don't). When I start a de-obfuscated download I copy the description to Notepad++ because when the file segments are deleted their descriptions will be as well. But that shouldn't happen if you aren't running any 4DOS-aware programs and I don't think Newsleecher manages the descriptions after it creates them.
It would be good if NL would rename the file after downloading it. Maybe in version 8.
JP Software has 4DOS-like replacements for the Windows command prompt and one of them, Take Command Classic/Limited Edition (TCC/LE) is free. It's far more versatile than the Windows prompt especially if you do anything with batch files. I install it on all of my Windows computers. Of course it supports 4DOS descriptions.

Thanks that's a little better than nothing, but an actual option to use the "correct" file name (or folder name) would still be a nice thing to have. (smile)

Update: Definitely in version 8. Check out this thread which has Spiril's link to an unofficial beta. It does exactly what you asked for. The new layout will take a bit of getting used to but no real problem. Thanks, NL!

I tried this unofficial beta. Unfortunetly it wouldnt download anything. Files in the transfer queue would just sit there. It would say
"queued"
"queued"
Re: de-obfustication idea/request
Same here, no downloads.
Re: de-obfustication idea/request
No reason to run the unofficial beta now since an official one has been posted. There are several links to it but one is the 6/25/2019 post in the News & Log tab of NewsLeecher. I recommend installing it in a separate directory from NL 7.0 Final because, while it renames the deobfuscated files after download (yay!), it is missing some of 7.0's features and some things don't work as well or not at all.

Re: de-obfustication idea/request
It doesn't rename the .rar files but after they're downloaded, verified and repaired if necessary, the Unpacker creates a directory with the file's real name, assembles the pieces and saves the resulting file(s) to it, also given their real names. It's automatic. I'm not aware of any setting that would disable it. Have you tried the beta?

Re: de-obfustication idea/request
Yes I have v7 and v8 installed in different folders.
I just downloaded something with v8 b1. Here's what I got:
cc94ee23495e4d47bba824356b942574.part01.rar.
cc94ee23495e4d47bba824356b942574.part02.rar
cc94ee23495e4d47bba824356b942574.part03.rar
They certainly don't look renamed to me.
Can you show me an example of something you downloaded that got renamed?

Ok I figured it out now. You never mentioned that I have to use the unpacker and download at least one .par file. But it does
work. This will save me tons of time.
